Voice of Hope
for the Hopeless
Samburu and its neighboring communities are in dire need of hope and refuge from the ongoing tribal clashes and animosity between them. In some places here in Samburu, Mara Vision’s pastors face the impossibility of sharing the gospel message with the people. Those areas, for example, are along the boundaries and in the remote areas where there’s no water, no roads, or other basic needs.
Where the feet of our pastors cannot walk, radio airwaves penetrate deeply. After much deliberation amongst the MVO leadership on how to reach unreachable areas with God’s word of hope, Mara Vision pastors prepared sermons and began broadcasting on a Samburu radio station in May 2024. This radio station covers about 600 square miles, which includes the whole of Samburu, Pokot, and a large part of Turkana.
God promised Isaiah:
“I will go before you and make
the crooked places straight;
I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
and cut the bars of iron.” (Isaiah 45:2)
Before we went into negotiations with the radio station, we prayed to God that they would give us within the prime hours of 7:00–9:00 pm here in Kenya. That’s exactly what He gave us: 7:30–8:30 pm. Indeed, our God went before us.
Our God is a God of miracles. After following our sermons, the manger called me recently and told me that he’s so blessed by the teachings that he plans to give us some extra time for free.
Our programs run three days a week—Friday, Sabbath, and Sunday. Following is our broadcast schedule for the month:
-
Friday—Sermons
-
Sabbath—Bibles study
-
Sunday—Family life
Moreover, in the future we are planning other topics:
-
Bible prophecy
-
Health
-
The reading of Ellen. G. White books (currently, Steps to Christ is being translated into Maasai language by MVO workers)

Since the beginning of transmitting these messages on the radio station, numerous people have heard the gospel—many of whom may never have been reached due to their location and other challenges. We receive many testimonies from different people and places, confessing that they now know about the true Sabbath, including the manager of the radio station. In his own words: “I have learned something that I have never known in my entire life—the true day of worship.” Because God went before us, the manager now wants to give us extra minutes.
Our listeners ask questions and share their testimonies as to how they came to know the true God, the true day of worship, and the solution for their marriages. Their stories are so encouraging, motivating, and glorifying to God. This radio station has indeed become a voice of hope for the hopeless and a light to those living under the bondage of darkness.
“He has delivered us from the
power of darkness and conveyed us into
the kingdom of the Son of His love.”
(Colossians 1:13)
Having enough radio air time is the major challenge we now experience. We have only one hour per session for sermons and teaching, questions, testimonials, prayer requests, and closing prayer. Since we are so limited, we achieve less. Moreover, we’re planning to increase our content to include the following:
-
Have our warriors and others give their testimonies about how they met Christ, and what their lives were like before and after meeting Christ.
-
Having a question-and-answer time about the sermon every Friday.
Let’s hold hands together and pray for God to open more doors, more avenues for our airtime to be increased so we are able to teach our people to know the only true God and Jesus whom He sent.
May God’s will be done in the hearts of our listeners, speakers, and you, our precious donors. Amen!
Winning More Souls
Radio programming has proven to be a very useful tool in piercing hearts for the kingdom. Many times over, we've seen that happen in the dark places of the world in the efforts of our sister ministry: Adventist World Radio.
Radios are far more prevalent than smartphones in the hard-to-reach places where Mara Vision works. Typically, only men have the smartphones if they can afford them. While the little old lady won’t have a smartphone, she may well have a radio or know someone who does.
The reality is that the majority of MVO's listeners use radios. Many people have small solar-powered flashlights, which contain little portable radios. Since not everyone owns a solar-powered flashlight, they often gather at a boma (home) of someone who owns one so they can listen to the radio programming of MVO’s evangelists.
For those few who own smartphones, they can follow MVO on Facebook. Thus, reaching these unreached people via radio is unmatched, even with today’s technology.
“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)
These verses are often at the forefront of our thinking, and this radio programing is an added component of working in God's vineyard. You assist us greatly in these labors with your continued prayers and financial support. As MVO’s work moves forward, we are thankful that you join us in doing your part in bringing in the harvest.
